4.1-Magnitude Quake Shakes SoCal: USGS

KERN COUNTY, CA — A 4.1-magnitude earthquake shook the rural Johannesburg area of Kern County on Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake struck at 3:34 p.m., the survey reported, just over 11 miles west-southwest of Johannesburg, and had a depth of 4.7 miles. It was followed by a 2.6-magnitude earthquake at 3:56 p.m. in the same area and a 2.7-magnitude quake at 4:41 p.m. that was also nearby, according to the survey.
People reported feeling the 4.1-magnitude quake as far as Wofford Heights and Canyon Country, according to the survey.
A 4.1-magnitude earthquake is often felt but typically causes only minor damage, according to Michigan Technological University.
