1 Line service restored after SUV drives onto tracks at Mount Baker Station

Sound Transit suspended a portion of the 1 Line light rail service on Tuesday evening after a vehicle drove onto the tracks and became stuck on the elevated guideway near Mount Baker Station.

The transit agency sent an alert at 6:16 p.m., stating that service between SODO Station and Othello Station was suspended because of the incident.

A KOMO News photographer at Mount Baker Station captured the vehicle on the light rail tracks.

According to Sound Transit, emergency responders worked to remove the vehicle. The agency initially did not provide an estimated timeline for restoring regular service, but by 10:30 p.m., it announced that normal service had resumed on both the 1 Line and 2 Line.

The Seattle Fire Department said crews responded to reports of a vehicle on the northbound light rail tracks. When firefighters arrived, the driver had already exited the vehicle.

The driver, a 70-year-old woman, was in stable condition and was transported to Swedish Cherry Hill by ambulance for evaluation.

During the disruption, trains continued to operate between Lynnwood City Center Station and Stadium Station, as well as between Federal Way Downtown Station and Othello Station. Sound Transit said 2 Line service was not affected.

At 7:20 p.m., Sound Transit updated its website, saying 1 Line service remained suspended between SODO Station and Othello Station because of a track blockage.

In a separate update at 9:25 p.m., Sound Transit said some 1 Line trains would operate only between Stadium Station and Federal Way Downtown Station because of a mechanical issue.

By 10:30 p.m., Sound Transit announced that regular service had resumed on both the 1 Line and 2 Line.
