Errani and Vavassori defend RG mixed title

For the second year in a row, King was defeated by the Italians at the final stage in Paris. The Chicago native, who played the mixed final with Taylor Townsend last year, teamed up with Ottawa-born Dabrowski for the first time this season.

“You guys are amazing for the sport, and inspirations,” King said to the Italian duo on court. “I wish we would beat you but you guys are just really good.”

Things started well for Dabrowski and King, as they raced to a 4-0 advantage in the opening set with heady, all-court play in tricky conditions.

They hung on to take the opener, with two-time Grand Slam mixed and women’s doubles champion Dabrowski yanking a drive volley winner to close the set in 38 minutes, but Errani and Vavassori soon took over.
