‘Power: Legacy’ Set At Starz With Joseph Sikora & Michael Rainey Jr.

EXCLUSIVE: Starz has ordered Power: Legacy to series with franchise stars Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. returning as their original characters Tommy Egan and Tariq St. Patrick, respectively. Gary Lennon (Power, Euphoria), who most recently concluded his run as showrunner of Power Book IV: Force, will showrun and executive produce Power: Legacy from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
Power: Legacy is a continuation series set in the present timeline following the events in the Power Book IV: Force finale that saw Tommy and Tariq reunite and save the day (photo above). Tariq tells his uncle Tommy that they could do with his help in New York, should he choose to leave Chicago behind. But after cleaning house in the Windy City and establishing himself as the top dog of the criminal underworld, with a growing family to boot, will the allure of his past be enough to send him packing? The answer is, yes.
Power: Legacy sees the return of Tommy to New York, where he partners with Tariq to take the city by storm, the official logline reads.
It’s worth noting that Tommy’s pregnant girlfriend, Mireya (Carmela Zumbado), left Chicago to seek safety while Tommy handled his business. It was not revealed where she went, though Tommy believes she went to Mexico to seek refuge with family. The popular answer among fans has been that Mireya went to New York, perhaps to be with Tommy’s mom, Kate (Patricia Kalember).
The new series is a co‑production between Starz and Lionsgate Television, which advances Starz’s focus on expanding ownership of its premium original programming. Unlike previous “Power” series, which were licensed, this co‑production model allows Starz to participate fully in the ancillary and downstream revenue opportunities generated by this latest installment of “Power.”
“Power never dies, and this chapter is our biggest yet,” shared Jackson. “Fans have been waiting to see Tariq and Tommy together, and now they’re taking over New York City. Bringing Joseph and Michael back together is special; they’ve turned these characters into true icons of the ‘Power’ universe.”
Lenon, who served as executive producer of the OG Power series, added, “I’m thrilled to reunite with Starz to bring this latest chapter of the ‘Power’ Universe to fans and especially proud to be entrusted with continuing Tommy and Tariq’s story as showrunner on Power: Legacy,” said Lennon. “It’s going to be electrifying to see if these two men can share the city, the game, and the intoxicating drug known as POWER.”

Starz touts the success of the third and final season of Force as having “delivered record-setting in-season growth of 57%. To date, the Season 3 premiere has attracted 9 million multiplatform viewers, and the franchise has now accumulated more than 2 billion hours viewed globally across all of its series.”
Rainey, Jr. and Sikora originated their roles in the OG Power series more than a decade ago and went on to lead their own successful franchise spin-offs, with Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book IV: Force, respectively.
In addition to Ghost and Force, the franchise also includes the first prequel series, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, from Sascha Penn, which returns with its fifth and final season on June 12th. Power: Origins, currently shooting its first season in New York, will pick up after the events of the Raising Kanan finale, with Mekai Curtis set to reprise the titular role opposite newcomers Spence Moore II as young James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Charlie Mann as Young Tommy.
“The fans have spoken, and we listened,” Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz, said. “Power doesn’t die, it evolves with its audience, and for over a decade, the ‘Power’ Universe has remained at the forefront of culture. We’re thrilled to reunite Joseph and Michael to deliver a new chapter that fuses the franchise’s iconic legacy with bold, boundary-pushing storytelling.”
Lennon will serve as showrunner and executive producer based on a pilot script co-written by Lennon and Kendra Chapman Davis (Power Book IV: Force, Designated Survivor). The “Power” Universe series is executive-produced by the creator and showrunner of the original Power, Courtney A. Kemp, through her production company, End of Episode; Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, through G-Unit Film and Television; and Mark Canton, through Canton Entertainment. Kendra Chapman Davis, Sikora, and Chris Selak also serve as executive producers. Rainey Jr. serves as producer.
