Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he has not thought about talks with Ferrari over extending his F1 contract with the team.
Team-mate Charles Leclerc penned a new deal with the Scuderia this week, with his previous deal, signed in 2024, understood to expire at the end of the 2028 season.
The Monegasque is also set to receive a pay-rise with the team, with Hamilton’s own initial Ferrari contract soon coming up for renewal.
It is understood Hamilton signed a ‘two-plus-one’ deal when he joined Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season, meaning he was locked in until the end of 2026, with the option on his side to trigger a one-year extension.
Much has been made of Hamilton potentially retiring from F1, but in Canada last time out, he declared that “I am going to be here for quite some time” as he chases a record eighth drivers’ championship.
Speaking in Monaco ahead of the race weekend in which Ferrari has been heavily-tipped to score its first grand prix win of the season, Hamilton insisted that talks over an extension was not something “I’m engaging in.”
“No. It’s still some time off,” Hamilton began when asked by media, including RacingNews365, if he had begun discussions over a new deal of his own.
“I’ve got a lot of time.
“It’s not a thought or conversation that I’m engaging in.”
