Great Lakes Climate Corps to plant trees during the summer to reduce rainwater runoff

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The Superior Watershed Partnership and the Great Lakes Climate Corps will be starting a tree planting project this summer.
The GLCC will be planting trees all around Marquette County to help reduce rainwater runoff. The goal is to have 100,000 trees planted all together.
Great Lakes Climate Corps Program Manager Tyler Penrod believes a project like this is rewarding not just for the environment but those planting as well.
“It’s a tangible result that years later now I can go back to parks that I’ve planted trees in and see little tree plugs that used to be this tall that are now starting to get up to my shoulders,” Penrod said. “So, it’s really rewarding to go back and see the work that we’ve accomplished.”
Penrod says GLCC is still searching for partner organizations to help with the project and local governments with land that can be renovated.
