‘Food alert’ at Stoke-on-Trent company as ‘do not eat’ warning issued

The Food Standards Agency has been called in

Inarah’s Frozen Food Ltd has a base in Fenton

Families are being told not to eat products from a Stoke-on-Trent frozen food firm. It comes as the Food Standards Agency (FSA) had issued a ‘Food Alert for Action’ for all frozen products from Inarah’s Frozen Food Ltd.

Now Stoke-on-Trent City Council has claimed it found products with ‘illegal labels’ after an investigation into the business which has a base at Fenton Industrial Estate. The FSA say that all products with ‘Inarah’s Frozen Foods’, ‘Inarah’s Fine Foods’ or ‘New York Crispy’ are included in the alert.

A post on the website states: “All frozen products by Inarah’s Frozen Food Ltd should be removed from sale and not consumed because of food safety concerns. Food businesses and consumers should be aware that frozen products in Inarah’s Frozen Food, Inarah’s Fine Food, and New York Crispy packaging may be unsafe to eat and should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers. These products should not be consumed.

“Inarah’s Frozen Foods Ltd has been unable to demonstrate that the products in this alert have been produced and handled safely. Products that have not met food hygiene and safety requirements pose a risk to consumers and may be unsafe to eat. The products are known to have been supplied to food businesses across the UK.

“These brands cover a wide range of frozen products including chicken, beef, fish and vegetarian items, packaged in different size packaging with multiple best before dates and/or batch numbers.”

The FSA say the products have one of the following company names and addresses on the labels – Inarah Frozen Foods LTD, Regal Drive, Walsall; Four Seasons Food Group, Unit 7-8 Monarch Works, Elswick Road, Fenton Industrial Estate; KBH Foods, BD9 4TS.

It adds: “All frozen products with either ‘Inarah’s Frozen Foods’, ‘Inarah’s Fine Foods’ or ‘New York Crispy’ with one of the above addresses are included in this alert. Food businesses selling these products in the UK are advised to immediately stop sales, undertake product withdrawals, and where there have been retail sales, to undertake product recalls. Products should be disposed of safely.”

Under the section ‘action taken by company’ a post states: “We are asking enforcement authorities to ensure that businesses who have received the affected products take action to ensure that these products are withdrawn from the market and, where there have been retail sales, recalled. We are also asking the local authorities to inform the FSA of product withdrawal and recall actions.”

Customers who have bought any of the listed products are told not to eat them and throw them away.

The city council say it alerted the FSA and has taken ‘firm action’.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of the Food Alert for Action issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in relation to findings at Inarah’s Frozen Food in Stoke-on-Trent. This has come after we alerted the FSA to investigations we carried out, which found the premises was selling frozen food products with illegal labels and with no traceability. We have taken firm action already to remove these products from the market and will continue to assist any other businesses in Stoke-on-Trent that may have affected products. We also want to remind residents to check their food at home and to not consume these products.”
