UFC Vegas 118 video: Bryce Mitchell scores dramatic submission in final seconds

Bryce Mitchell wasn’t stopping until he secured a submission.

At UFC Vegas 118 on Saturday, Mitchell improved to 2-0 as a bantamweight inside the octagon with a submission in the dying seconds of his fight with 21-year-old prospect Santiago Luna.

Luna stepped in to face Bryce Mitchell on just nine days’ notice as a replacement for Victor Henry, who was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury. The previously undefeated Mexican fighter was a game challenge for Mitchell, but eventually succumbed to the more experienced fighter’s smothering wrestling. Luna was unafraid to test his grappling against Mitchell and that contributed to his undoing as Mitchell consistently won better positions throughout the fight.

When Mitchell got on top again near the end of the third round, he pushed hard for a finish, eventually securing the submission with just eight seconds remaining in the fight.

Afterwards, Mitchell praised Luna for accepting the fight and giving him the chance to compete Saturday.

Mitchell (19-3) previously fought at featherweight, but has found success at 135 pounds and this win improved his overall UFC record to 10-3.

On the other side, Luna (8-1) loses for the first time in nine pro bouts.
