Scrappy-Doo suddenly has company for cutest pooch in the Scooby-Doo universe.
On Monday, Netflix revealed its live-action Scooby-Doo dog for upcoming series Scooby-Doo: Origins. The casting marks the first time in franchise history that Scooby-Doo will be played by a real dog. (A great dane, like the cartoon pup.)

Beyond know the breed and sex, Netflix is being weirdly secretive about the real identity of its real doggo star. His name and age are being kept under wraps — for now.
Scooby-Doo: Origins is currently in production in Atlanta and will premiere globally on Netflix in 2027. The previously announced (human) cast includes Mckenna Grace as Daphne Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, Maxwell Jenkins as Fred and Paul Walter Hauser.
Netflix also will not share Hauser’s character, so in all likelihood the dude is voicing the dog. OK Paul, now give me three “rut-rohs.”
Origins is described as a “modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” the logline reads. “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are showrunners on the Warner Bros. Television series. They will executive produce along with non-writers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Adrienne Erickson and Toby Haynes, who also directed the first episode.
Scooby-Doo has birthed a litter of films (three), more than a dozen animated series and nearly 40 animated home entertainment movies.
