Pink hosted the Tony Awards for the first time ever on June 7, helming the night’s proceedings at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.

In the show’s opening number, the entertainer changed into a pink corset with fishnets and tall black boots—the costume evocative of her stage name.

Later in the show, Pink performed “All That Jazz” in a 30th anniversary tribute to the musical Chicago.
For the first time ever, Pink hosted the Tony Awards—and underwent a number of costume changes as she did so. At one point during the show at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, the singer—perhaps appropriately—paid subtle homage to her stage name, donning a pink corset with fishnets, tall black boots, and crystal fringe.

On June 7, the “Just Give Me a Reason” singer kicked off the awards show with a “Lady Marmalade” opening number that featured Megan Thee Stallion and 170 Broadway stars. True to her onstage performances, the opener featured aerial acrobatics—which the singer, whose real name is Alecia Moore, often does while on tour. Also during the opening number, Pink dressed up as Peter Pan, saying, “I want to show how much I love theater, even though I haven’t been on Broadway. I’m concerned that people will be like, ‘Why is Pink hosting the Tonys?’ I want to show them how thrilled I am to be here!”

Neil Patrick Harris—a former Tonys host himself—then gave her a word of encouragement, telling the performer, “You’re Pink. You’re singular. You’re the best. So just do what you do—it’s going to be a great night.”

Elsewhere in the ceremony, Pink joined a 30th anniversary tribute to Chicago, singing “All That Jazz.” Ahead of the awards show, the entertainer walked the blue carpet with her entire family—husband Carey Hart, daughter Willow Hart, son Jameson Hart, and her mother Judith Moore.

On the carpet, Pink wore a sparkly black gown with petal-like ruffles with a voluminous feathered train that trailed behind her. She accessorized her floor-length gown with long earrings and a blue-black floral accent in her pixie style hair.
Speaking to The New York Times, Pink admitted that her response to being offered the hosting gig—her first time hosting a major awards ceremony—was, “Why? I don’t get it.”
Their pitch, she said, was “you and your daughter are all about theater, and we want to get more eyes on the Tonys.” Willow, 15, has long expressed a desire to perform on Broadway, and the family moved to New York City last year so she could attend an arts high school in the Big Apple.

Of hosting the Tonys, “It’s a lot of unknowns that I’m not used to,” Pink told the outlet. “But I like it, because it’s stretching me.”
After being announced as the host of the awards ceremony back in April, Pink called the opportunity “the honor of an entire lifetime,” calling Broadway performers “the literal hardest working people in showbiz.”

“Broadway has shaped my life and how I put my own shows together,” she added, per People. “It is a community that is supportive, and inclusive, and full of talent and love. These people give magic every single day, and I cannot wait to celebrate them with the entire world.”
