Those with experience don’t set an exacting standard, so this looks ripe for a newcomer, with MINZAZI the preference before market clues. He represents a yard whose two-year-olds are going nicely and has a speedy pedigree. Undiscovered is another likely type on paper, while Secret Society and Foscarini are others who are worth a second look in the market.

HARRY KNOWS had a couple of possible excuses for his odds-on defeat at Goodwood last month, perhaps the fairly quick turnaround or idiosyncratic track catching him out. His debut form at Newbury prior to that was promising, though that form has been boosted since, and he’s well worth another chance. Aphra Behn, Make No Mistake, and Green Dividend, whose yard has been among the two-year-old winners, are likely types among the newcomers.

THUNDEROUS LOVE is likely in better heart than her recent form figures suggest and, having dipped back to a mark in the 60s, is worth siding with over a course and distance where she’s tasted success twice before, including on testing ground. Recent Windsor scorer Distant Rumble rates as an obvious danger with Oisin Murphy taking the reins, while Arantes Nascimento is another who arrives at the top of his game.

BRIGHT SUMMER shaped well on her debut in a newcomers event at Newbury in April and showed the benefit of that experience when opening her account on the all-weather at Lingfield last month. She belied market weakness as she became the third next-time-out winner from that Newbury maiden, and she left the impression there’s even more to come. She’s expected to defy a penalty, while Areti can place again with Hugh, the best of the others.

BESIEGED is bred to be smart – the first foal out of Group 1 winner Snow Lantern – and he has shown plenty of ability in finishing second in both starts so far. He was beaten only by another promising colt in a well-run race which produced a good time figure at Newbury last time, and that looks solid form. He very much sets the standard in this field and is expected to open his account now. However, debutant Centrum needs to be kept an eye on as a half-brother to connections’ superstar mare Enable.

ROSSA RAHEEN looks to have got off lightly with just a 1 lb nudge for her latest outing at Newbury, where she was beaten just a neck, particularly as the third has won since. She did well to get as close as she did in a race not run at a true tempo and should prove hard to beat with further improvement forthcoming. Fellow unexposed three-year-old Morven is the second choice ahead of Henry Candy’s Regal Charm, a good second in the mud at Newbury when last seen in the autumn.

MAID IN DEVON is a half-sister to the same connections’ useful winner Adaay In Devon, and she showed improved form to open her account returned to six furlongs over this course and distance last month, beating the reopposing Stock Market by half a length. She remains unexposed after just six starts, and she remains with handicapping scope following a 5lb rise in the weights. Grand Vista and That’s Random are potential improvers now handicapping, so are feared most.
