Major search off Welsh beach enters second day after reports of two people in distress

A major search is ongoing off the Welsh coast this morning (Tuesday, June 9) following reports of two people in distress.
Police and Coastguards launched the multi-agency operation last night at Cefn Sidan beach, Carmarthenshire.
Emergency services fear the two people involved may have run into difficulty or have come to harm at the beach.
Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for help from the public and in particular anyone who was at Cefn Sidan beach yesterday evening.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers are working with the Coastguard following reports of two individuals, possibly in distress, near the coastline at Cefn Sidan beach at Pembrey, Burry Port.
“A call was received at around 9.50pm on Monday, 8 June, reporting two individuals dressed in dark clothing and waving a torch near the water’s edge. It is unclear whether the two individuals have encountered difficulty or harm at the location.

“If you have any information that could help – or if you were at the Cefn Sidan beach this evening – officers would like to hear from you.”
The sandy beach at Cefn Sidan extends for more than eight miles and was the first in Wales to achieve a coveted Blue Flag award.
It is backed by dunes, salt marshes, Pembrey Forest and Pembrey Country Park.
Throughout the summer the beach is manned by lifeguards at the main beach entrance.
