BIG ROCK DAY 2: ‘Savanna Leigh’ in the lead with 439.2 lb blue marlin

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – A second team has boated a blue marlin today, with the first catch of the day set to weigh in soon on day two of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.

Marlin Fever boated a blue marlin around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, about two hours after it first hooked up. It has a 2:50 p.m. ETA for arriving at the scales.

Hit N Run is the second today to boat a blue marlin at around 2:20 p.m., nearly 30 minutes after it was first caught. An ETA has not been announced.

This comes after an exciting first day at Big Rock Landing with two blue marlin at the scales on Monday.

‘Savanna Leigh’ brought back a 439.2-pound blue marlin yesterday, marking the first blue marlin weighed at the 68th annual tournament.

The fish is currently worth $5.7 million, according to the tracker.

The big catch remains in the lead after ‘Free Ranger’ boated a marlin, falling just three pounds short, weighing in at 436.2 pounds.

Both catches fell short of qualifying for the Fabulous Fisherman prize of $871,250, which requires a fish weighing more than 500 pounds.

In total, 73 billfish were caught and released yesterday.

According to the tournament tracker, 211 boats are out fishing today.

The total purse for this year’s tournament is over $9 million.
