Stead joins as first summer signing

Cambridge United are pleased to announce the signing of forward Callum Stead on a two-year deal…
The 26-year-old arrives after an impressive spell at Barnet, where he scored 50 goals in 124 appearances.
A product of the Luton Town Academy, Stead forged his career through the non-league pyramid before joining Barnet in 2023. He enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign, playing a key role in the Bees’ National League title triumph and earning a clean sweep of the club’s end-of-season awards and being selected in the National League Team of the Season.
Stead carried that momentum into his first season in the EFL, scoring 13 league goals in 34 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign.
Callum Stead said, “I’m really pleased to be here. The chance to test myself in League One was a big factor for me and, after speaking with the club, it felt like the right move. They outlined how they want the team to play and I felt it was a style that would suit me and allow me to contribute.
“I’m a hardworking player who loves scoring goals. That’s always been a big part of my game and I’m hungry to keep improving and helping the team. I can’t wait to meet up with the lads, get to work in pre-season and get started.”
Neil Harris added, “I’m delighted to welcome Callum Stead to the football club. We saw a lot of him last season when playing against his Barnet side, and he was also a player who consistently caught the eye whenever we watched them.
“Callum is a tactically intelligent player who can operate anywhere behind the striker. His goals and assists last season were extremely impressive, and he brings a range of qualities that we believe will make us a real attacking threat in League One this year.”
Stead arrives at the Cledara Abbey Stadium as the Club’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
