News of a Milwaukee Bucks-inspired Air Jordan 12 Retro emerged back in October and now, a first look at the upcoming sneaker has surfaced.
Said to carry an official nickname of “Idols Become Rivals,” the upcoming Air Jordan 12 Retro will sport a full colorway of Summit White/Gorge Green/Black/Fierce Purple.
This amounts to classic color-blocking for the reissued sneaker, with a predominantly white leather upper that’s contrasted by a reptile-textured Gorge Green mudguard and rubber outsole. The Bucks inspiration is emphasized with Fierce Purple on the shoe’s branding and on the outsole’s carbon fiber support shank, but the color story doesn’t end there. The new colorway also adds an iridescent touch to the shoe’s upper eyelets and lateral Jumpman TPU badge, adding an oil slick-like look to the heritage-inspired style.
Seemingly inspired by former Bucks star Ray Allen, the Idols Become Rivals nickname appears to stem from Michael Jordan’s head-to-head encounters with the sharpshooting star. While they didn’t have the fiercest rivalry, Allen entered the league looking up to Jordan’s legacy and soon became a peer. The former NBA greats faced off in a total of 12 games which not only spanned their tenures with the Chicago Bulls and Bucks, but also extended to their stints with the Washington Wizards and Seattle Supersonics.

A former signee to Nike, Inc.’s Jordan Brand, Allen was issued numerous Air Jordan player exclusives throughout his historic career including several Air Jordan 12s. However, many of his exclusive styles came later in his career as a member of the Supersonics and Boston Celtics, and Allen never had his own Bucks-colored Air Jordan 12 — until now.
The Air Jordan 12 Retro Bucks is currently set to be released on Sept. 19 from Nike’s Snkrs app and select Jordan Brand retailers for $215. The sneaker’s style code is CT8013-103.
