Wemby, Spurs Targeted With Objects by Knicks Fans at Hotel on Video After Historic NBA Finals Loss

Members of the San Antonio Spurs didn’t receive a hospitable reaction as they arrived at their hotel following Wednesday’s 107-106 loss to the New York Knicks.

Knicks fans who gathered outside the building jeered the players as they walked off the bus. Things then went too far when something was thrown at Spurs star Victor Wembanyama:

As San Antonio’s best player, Wembanyama is always going to garner a different reaction from his teammates. Throughout the Finals, he hasn’t endeared himself to those in the Big Apple, either.

During Game 3, Wemby shoved Knicks star Jalen Brunson in the back of the head, avoiding a flagrant foul in the moment and after the league office reviewed the incident. He wasn’t so lucky in Game 4, drawing a flagrant 1 after he inadvertently elbowed Karl-Anthony Towns in the jaw.

While the Frenchman hasn’t made a full heel turn, he’s the closest thing to a villain on the court.

The good news for the Spurs is that they might’ve had their last trip to New York for the series. The bad news is that’s because the Knicks can close things out in Game 5 on Saturday.

Down 3-1, San Antonio faces long odds of coming back.
