Here’s the Low-Down on Angelina Jolie’s 6 Children

- Angelina Jolie shares six children with ex-husband Brad Pitt: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne.
- Her three eldest were adopted, while her three youngest are her biological children.
- A few of her children have opted to remove “Pitt” from their surname following rumors of tension with their father.
Angelina Jolie may be (reportedly) single at the moment, but she rarely hits the red carpet alone. That’s because she almost always has one of her six children with Brad Pitt on her arm—if not several of them!
Back in 2019, she even managed to bring her whole brood—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne—to a special screening of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.

And two years later, she was able to get five out of six kids to London to attend The Eternals premiere—and both Zahara and Shiloh rocked dresses that Angelina had worn on previous red carpets.

So…what should you know about Angelina Jolie’s kids? Here’s a quick rundown on the whole crew, starting with the oldest and working our way down to the twins.
Maddox Chivan
Born: Aug. 5, 2001 in Battambang, Cambodia
Adopted: March 10, 2002

Born in Cambodia, Maddox was adopted by Angelina as a seven-month-old in March 2022, and during a 2017 interview with Vanity Fair, the actress recounted how she fell in love with her son. Per Angelina, she “didn’t feel a connection with any of [the kids]” at the orphanage, but when she held Maddox, she “just cried and cried.”
Though married to Billy Bob Thornton at the time, Angie adopted Maddox on her own, and in 2005, Maddox was officially adopted by Brad. In 2023, Maddox graduated from Yonsei University in South Korea degree in biochemistry, and during a 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Angelina revealed that her oldest was “training to be a pilot.”
Pax Thien
Born: Nov. 29, 2003 in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
Adopted: March 15, 2007

Though born in 2003, Pax didn’t join the Jolie-Pitt family until March 2007, which is when he was adopted from an orphanage in Vietnam at three-and-a-half years old. Angie adopted him solo (since Vietnamese law made it difficult for an unmarried couple to adopt), but Pax was formally adopted by Brad in 2008.
During a 2007 interview with MSN, Angie marveled at how well Pax was adjusting to his new life in America. “He’s learning English and he’s so loving and he’s wild and free ’cause he suddenly has freedom so he’s a little wild and crazy,” she said. “But what a tough, remarkable little person.” Since then, he has largely avoided the spotlight (which is reportedly why he skipped out on The Eternals premiere back in 2021).
Zahara Marley
Born: Jan. 8, 2005 in Hawassa, Ethiopia
Adopted: July 6, 2005

Zahara was adopted from an orphanage in Ethiopia when she was seven months old—and apparently, Maddox was the one who inspired the trip to Africa. According to Angie, a then almost-four-year-old Maddox expressed interest in visiting the continent, and after meeting Zahara, he noted to his mom that she “needed care.”
She officially joined the family in July 2005, and following her graduation from high school, Zahara enrolled in Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. The following year, she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and around that time, she notably dropped her “Pitt” from her last name.
Shiloh Nouvel
Born: May 27, 2006 in Swakopmund, Namibia

Brad and Angelina’s second eldest daughter (and first biological child) was born in Namibia, where the family had been living at the time. Growing up, Shiloh considered herself “one of the brothers,” per Angelina. As she said of Shiloh to Reuters back in 2010, “I think she is fascinating, the choices she is making. And I would never be the kind of parent to force somebody to be something they are not. I think that is just bad parenting.”
When she’s not joining in on her mom’s humanitarian efforts, Shiloh seems to spend much of her free time taking classes at Millennium Dance Complex, an elite dance studio in L.A. Soon after her 18th birthday in 2024, Shiloh followed in her older sister’s footsteps and legally changed her last name from Jolie-Pitt to Jolie.
Knox Léon

Born in France just minutes before his twin sister, Knox was named for Brad’s grandfather, Hal Knox Hillhouse. Aside from voicing a character named Ku Ku in Kung Fu Panda 3, Knox has largely kept himself out of the limelight (which is why it was so shocking when he joined his mom on the red carpet for the 2024 Governors Awards!).
Vivienne Marcheline
Born: July 12, 2008 in Nice, France

The youngest member of the Jolie-Pitt family, Vivienne was named after Angelina’s grandmother, with whom she shares the same first name. Unlike her twin brother, Vivienne seems to have an interest in Hollywood, having helped Angie bring The Outsiders to Broadway as her volunteer assistant.
In June 2024, Vivienne and Angelina Jolie attended the Tonys together (where The Outsiders won four awards!). And while Vivienne was listed as “Vivienne Jolie”in the playbill for The Outsiders, it hasn’t been confirmed whether she legally dropped her dad’s last name or not.
