Jahmyr Gibbs extension reactions: Lions teammate celebrate RB’s payday

Jahmyr Gibbs is one of the more beloved players in the Detroit Lions’ locker room. So it should come as no surprise that when Gibbs received his three-year extension on Thursday evening, there was an outpouring of love from Gibbs’ teammates, both past and present.
Gibbs’ three-year, $67.5 million contract is a record-setter for any NFL running back in history. So, of course, it was a cause for celebration. Let’s look at some of Gibbs’ peers and their reactions to the news.
Let’s start out with a player that may have the closest relationship with Gibbs than any other player in the league: former Lions running back David Montgomery. The “Knuckles” to Gibbs’ “Sonic,” Montgomery now plays for the Houston Texans after being traded this offseason. But he still wanted to offer up some love for Gibbs on his Instagram page Thursday night.
“Proud of you my dawg,” Montgomery captioned his story.
Another player who is extremely close to Gibbs is star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. He opted to just go the emoji route for his reaction.
Then there are a few old Lions running backs who previously had shared a room with Gibbs.
Craig Reynolds meme’d up a photo of Gibbs in a perfect way…
While former Lions running back Jermar Jefferson shared his pride in Gibbs.
One of the players who paved the way for Gibbs—both as a blocker and as a young core player who already got paid—Penei Sewell, offered his congratulations online.
And, finally, old friend Frank Ragnow chimed in about Gibbs. Not only congratulating the Lions running back, but offering a comment on his character: “Nice guy too,” he wrote.
