The WTA Toronto tournament continues with the third round on Friday. As women’s tennis players ramp up in preparation for the U.S. Open, this event is naturally significant. Those are two definite similarities between the players who will meet in this WTA Toronto match. What’s not similar: the rankings of these players. Jovic is in the top 20, while Korneeva is outside the top 75. Jovic wants to eventually get into the top 10. A realistic goal for Korneeva is the top 75. Rybakina won her first WTA Toronto match, but she needed three sets to beat Daria Kasatkina, who is not and has not been an in-form player. Rybakina has a lot of work to do to convince people she is a real contender for big titles right now.

Best Bet to Make
The reality of Elena Rybakina heading into the WTA Toronto third round is that she is a struggling tennis player. She is not confident or consistent. She is not getting results that match her talent. She showed how talented she is by winning in Australia back in January, but she just hasn’t been able to carry that victory forward into the rest of the tennis year. She will probably win this match, but after dropping a set to Kasatkina, there’s a good chance she will lose a set to Ann Li. You’ll get a great price for Li on the set spread. Go for it.

Roland-Garros champion Mirra Andreeva faces Canadian Leylah Fernandez in a WTA Toronto showcase. This is a high-quality matchup for the third round, and of course, the fact that Fernandez is Canadian will make local fans flock to this match in Toronto. Andreeva looked very smooth in an easy win over Karolina Pliskova earlier this week. Fernandez has been struggling but won her first Toronto match this week in straight sets as well. Andreeva has a Major championship, which obviously gives her a higher level of status and credibility. It’s up to Fernandez to prove she is ready to get back into the top 25. She is currently No. 34. If she wants to change the direction of her 2026 tennis season, here’s her big chance.

It really is this simple going into this high-profile WTA Toronto match: Andreeva has earned trust with her recent achievements, and Fernandez has not earned any trust with her inconsistent and basically mediocre results. Andreeva is 16-6 on hardcourts this year, Fernandez only 5-9. Andreeva in straight sets is our recommended standalone wager.
