Stephen Miller lashes out after MAGA gets attacked for fire: ‘Despicable’

White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller lashed out at Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) after he asked whether President Donald Trump’s administration will speak out against “the extreme right” that he claimed caused a fire at the home of a judge.

The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division is investigating after a house owned by state Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein and her husband, a former Democratic state senator, was set ablaze on Saturday, according to WYFF, leaving three people hospitalized.

FITSNews reported that the agency did not indicate whether the incident is a suspected arson attack — but noted that Goodstein has reportedly been receiving death threats for weeks. South Carolina Chief Justice John Kittredge told the outlet that the fire appeared to stem from an “apparent explosion.”

In September, Goodstein temporarily blocked South Carolina’s election commission from releasing a statewide voter registration list and information — including the last four digits of social security numbers and driver’s license numbers — to the Department of Justice, according to WRDW. The temporary restraining order was later unanimously reversed by the South Carolina Supreme Court.

The judge’s decision, however, was publicly criticized by Harmeet Dhillon, an assistant attorney general for civil rights at the DOJ, in a post on X.

“I will allow nothing to stand in the way of our mandate to maintain clean voter rolls,” Dhillon wrote, adding: “One Citizen, One Vote!”

In a post on X, Goldman wrote late Sunday: “Trump, @StephenM and MAGA-world have been doxxing and threatening judges who rule against Trump, including Judge Goodstein. Today, someone committed arson on the Judge’s home, severely injuring her husband and son.”

Miller went on to respond to Goldman, calling him “deeply warped and vile.”

“While the Trump Administration has launched the first-ever government-wide effort to combat and prosecute illegal doxing, sinister threats and political violence you continue to push despicable lies, demented smears, malicious defamation and foment unrest. Despicable,” Miller wrote.

“…While you post your libelous madness, we will keep focused on delivering public safety and fighting domestic terror,” he continued.

As the Trump administration has sought to restrict non-citizens from registering to vote, the president signed an executive order in March that argues “States fail adequately to vet voters’ citizenship.” Non-citizens cannot vote in state and federal elections.

The New York Times reported last month that the DOJ has been working to compile national voter roll data to essentially create a national voting database covering more than 30 states.
