After attending the prestigious BRIT School as a teenager, she began posting covers and original music on TikTok.

Breaking through with her viral hit ‘go’, which hit #2 on the Official Singles Chart, she has racked up some impressive accolades: she’s a triple-platinum-selling artist, the recipient of three BRIT nominations and a Mercury Prize nominee for her 2024 debut album early twenties.

Her next album, How to be Human is due to be released on 31 October and will be accompanied by a UK headline tour.

Is Cat Burns LGBTQ+?

She has spoken about identifying as a queer, Black woman and many of her songs use female pronouns when speaking about love interests.

“If you’re a Black woman, I want you to feel heard and seen,” she told Gay Times in 2022. “We are vulnerable people who are capable of having lots of emotions. And, being a Black queer woman adds a layer to that.”

What has Cat Burns said about her neurodivergence diagnosis?

Cat Burns has used her platform to discuss her experiences with neurodivergence.

In 2021, she was diagnosed with ADHD and in April 2023, she tweeted about also being diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder).

Speaking to The BBC about her desire to pursue a further diagnosis, she said: “I knew I had ADHD but I still felt there was a difference in my brain that I wanted to understand and explore.”

She then elaborated, saying: “So once I got my autism diagnosis that helped me understand myself and just how much I’ve had to do in order to get to where I am.”

For the musician, becoming aware of her neurodiversity has helped contextualise her upbringing: “I always felt inherently different from everybody else and I just didn’t have a name for it or know what it could have been. As I got older, I really identified with the symptoms.”
