Flood watch issued in parts of Arizona as Priscilla’s remnants head our way

PHOENIX (AZFamily) —We are tracking significant changes for the end of the week into this weekend, as remnants from Priscilla are expected to bring rain to the area. A Flood Watch is in effect for northern Arizona, including areas like Flagstaff, from Thursday afternoon through Saturday.

Highs will be in the upper 90s to around 100 today. If we reach 100 this afternoon, it will be the last triple-digit temperature for a while. Because some tropical moisture is already advancing out ahead of Priscilla, there will be a chance of showers from the higher terrain east of Phoenix into eastern Arizona this afternoon and this evening.

As Priscilla continues to weaken on Thursday west of the Baja peninsula, tropical moisture will continue to head our way, giving us a chance of rain in the Valley by Thursday night. However, much of the rain will likely fall in western Arizona and in the higher terrain north and east of Phoenix. Highs on Thursday are forecast into the mid-90s.

On Thursday night into Friday, additional moisture from Priscilla will combine with a disturbance moving in from the west. This will bring a good chance of rain and a few thunderstorms to the Valley, with the potential of impacts to both Friday commutes, but especially the evening commute. This is why Friday is one of three First Alert Weather Days. High temperatures on Friday are expected to be in the low to mid-90s.

Rain will likely continue at times into Saturday. While not all parts of the Valley are guaranteed to receive heavy rain, there is a potential for flash flooding. While Sunday may not have as much rain, there is still a 40% chance in the Valley.

Due to the potential impacts of rain and flooding, Saturday and Sunday are also First Alert days. Highs are expected to remain in the 80s on Saturday and Sunday.

As for rainfall totals from Thursday night into Sunday, around 1 inch to 1.5 inches of rain are possible in the Valley, with amounts over 2 inches possible in the higher elevations.

We will have to keep on eye on Monday and Tuesday as there is a 20% chance of rain on both days.
