Anthony Gordon ‘gutted’ one England star didn’t make Thomas Tuchel’s squad

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has revealed he’s ‘gutted’ that one of his England teammates is not in Thomas Tuchel’s squad in the October international break.

It’s the October international break, which means Newcastle United’s season has been put on hold once again.

It’s been a tough start for Newcastle, with Eddie Howe having to deal with injuries and transfer issues, such as the wantaway Alexander Isak, in the opening stages of the campaign, alongside a tougher workload with the Champions League.

There is a sense that things are starting to click, though, with Anthony Gordon, Nick Woltemade and Anthony Elanga forming a dangerous front-three.

Yet, injuries remain an issue with Howe not having a fully fit squad to choose from at any point this season.

New signing Jacob Ramsey has hardly played, while fellow recruit Yoane Wissa hasn’t at all. There are also problems at full-back with Lewis Hall struggling for fitness and now Tino Livramento sidelined.

The flying right-back was stretchered off the field against Arsenal and, though the injury isn’t as bad as feared, he will be sidelined for a significant chunk of the season.

Anthony Gordon ‘gutted’ that Tino Livramento has missed out on England duty

Gordon is one of several Newcastle players away on international duty this month, with the winger joining Dan Burn in the England squad.

Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions take on Wales in a friendly on Thursday before facing Latvia in a World Cup qualifier, a win in which could seal their place in 2026’s tournament.

With few chances left to impress the England boss ahead of the World Cup, every international break counts and Gordon feels for Livramento that he isn’t involved this time around.

When asked in a press conference if Livramento’s absence would make it tougher for him to play for England given the relationship he has with the defender at club level, Gordon replied: “I think that’s the difficulty for England sometimes that you’re not playing with the lads all the time.

“So the chemistry is not as good as you’d like it to be at club level. But I’ve been here for a long time now, so I’ve got a good chemistry with everyone on the pitch.

“Gutted for Tino that he can’t be here.

“Obviously, he’s been immense for Newcastle for a long time and played a lot of games.

“So hopefully he can just rest, get better and recover and come back better.”

When will Tino Livramento return from injury for Newcastle United?

Everyone associated with Newcastle feared the worst when they watched Livramento get carried off the field, knowing full well that he has suffered a serious ACL injury in the past.

Bad swelling meant the knee couldn’t be scanned properly straight away, too, just heightening the anxiety.

Yet, in a rare twist of good fortune, it wasn’t a season-ending injury or even a year-ending injury, if all goes well.

Providing an update last week, Howe said: “Tino went to see a specialist a couple of days ago.

“The scan initially looked better than we thought, and he confirmed it is looking like an eight-week injury, which is a blow given our schedule, but it is looking better than what we initially feared.”

If that timeline doesn’t change, Livramento could be back in action by November 22, after the November international break, when Newcastle face Manchester City at St. James’ Park.

However, given how patient Newcastle have been with injured players like Hall and Ramsey, Howe will likely take his time in bringing Livramento straight back into the starting XI if he can.
