‘Garv se kaho yeh Swadeshi hai’: PM Narendra Modi doubles down on India-made products ahead of Diwali

‘Garv se kaho yeh Swadeshi hai’: Ahead of Diwali on Monday, October 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday doubled down on India-made products and urged citizens to mark the festive season by celebrating the hard work, creativity and innovation of local artisans.

The “Vocal for Local” campaign is aimed at promoting indigenous products, empowering small businesses, and strengthening India’s economic fabric by prioritising domestically produced goods.

In a post on X, PM Modi shared the Government of India’s video on the “Vocal for Local” initiative, and said, “Let’s mark this festive season by celebrating the hard work, creativity and innovation of 140 crore Indians. Let’s buy Indian products and say- Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai!”

He also asked Indians to share their purchases on social media to “inspire others”. “Do also share what you bought on social media. This way, you will inspire others to also do the same,” PM Modi said.

Bollywood stars gather to promote PM Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative

In a video to promote PM Modi’s “Vocal for Local” initiative, several prominent film and television personalities can be seen supporting local businesses, encouraging citizens to shop locally and celebrate Indian entrepreneurship.

The video features Bollywood bigwigs like Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Varun Dhawan, and Shankar Mahadevan.

The stars also posted a special video dedicated to the effort on their personal social media handles.

Triptii Dimri was seen promoting a local footwear shop in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

“There’s something special about shopping from people who know your name, your choice, your vibe. This Diwali, I’m choosing local because every small shop has a big heart,” Triptii wrote in her caption.

While Madhuri Dixit brought to focus a local lights business from Dehradun. “Diwali ki roshni tabhi poori lagti hai jab khushi apno ke saath baanti jaye. Let’s support our local shops, our own people – and spread the light of togetherness,” she added in the caption.

Joining the initiative were other celebrities such as comedian Sunil Grover and singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan, who also promoted small vendors and thanked them for their essential role in society, especially during the festive season.

The initiative has received significant attention this year, with citizens encouraged to buy from local artisans, weavers, and small businesses.
