What is Bryan Woo’s ethnicity? Why Mariners brought SP out of bullpen in ALCS Game 7

Bryan Woo has pitched just once in the last month.

That didn’t stop the Seattle Mariners from bringing him out of their bullpen in Game 7 of the ALCS.

Woo had been out with a pectoral problem.

He made his return to pitch two innings of relief in Game 5.

And then in Game 7, Woo was back in again.

The Fox broadcast spoke about why manager Dan Wilson made the decision. Essentially, he wanted the guy who had been his best pitcher all year to get a shot in the biggest game in Mariners history.

Woo is an expert command pitcher, but he walked the first guy he faced.

The Mariners went on to turn a double play to get out of that first inning, but Woo wasn’t going to be done there.

What is Bryan Woo’s ethnicity?

Bryan Woo is of Chinese heritage.

His parents were both born in China.

Woo was born in Oakland, California and grew up in the Bay Area.

“I think when I was younger, I didn’t quite appreciate it as I do now,” Woo told the Independent Examiner of his heritage. “We took a couple of trips to China when I was younger. On our first trip, I went when I was seven or eight, and we actually got quarantined. We had a two-week trip and we got quarantined for like nine or 10 days of it. So, we had to do a redo. When I was in high school, we went back, visited where my grandmother and grandfather grew up, their villages, and some of their family ancestors, community and stuff around that. That was a super eye-opening experience, and then after that I became a little bit more aware and tried to be a bit more open to learning about their path to where we are now.”
