Art is imitating life for Kristen Bell.
On season two of her hit Netflix show Nobody Wants This, Bell’s character Joanne runs into a number of challenges with her rabbi boyfriend Noah (played by Adam Brody).
While the onscreen couple appeared to finally find some stability in the final minutes of the show’s season finale last year, Bell was eager to dig into the “What happens next?” of it all.
“My advice to Joanne is just calm down a little bit. I feel like she can get very amped up very quickly, and in order to take yourself from a ‘me’ to a ‘we,’ it requires a lot of patience,” Bell, 45, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Bell recently marked 12 years of marriage with her husband Dax Shepard, 50 — and those early-romance struggles are something she deeply related to.

“Having someone I feel that is very opposite from me is certainly something that I feel. I feel like my real-life husband and I are ‘opposites attract,'” she says. “But that doesn’t mean we couldn’t make it work, or didn’t want to make it work.
“It just meant we did have to have a lot of patience for each other to figure out what the compromises would be, and a general understanding that we’re probably going to have different viewpoints on almost everything — and figure out a respectful way to have those discussions,” she continues.
While Brody’s wife Leighton Meester makes an appearance this season on Nobody Wants This, Bell says it’s unlikely Shepard will be hitting the small screen again.
“I would of course want him to come on the show. He would never do it — he’s kind of retired from acting,” says Bell. “Maybe he’ll go back one day, but he loves podcasting and he’s not starved for opportunities.”
