Sleepers & Duds: Traversing Fantasy Football’s Ups And Downs Into Week 8

After the nice run, I finally bombed on my Sleepers & Duds picks last week.

I had New Orleans’ Spencer Rattler and Philadelphia’ Jalen Hurts backwards on my QB picks and the rest of the list was just blah!

But that’s the beauty of fantasy football, your team can be the talk of the week and then it all can come crashing back down the next week.

The good managers learn to handle those highs and lows and don’t panic after a bad week or become complacent after a strong run. You must stay on your toes and ahead of your fellow league managers to succeed.

Now onto this week’s Sleepers & Duds!

QB Sleepers

Jaxson Dart, New York Giants

I know this game has revenge all over it for Philadelphia, but just maybe Dart is the perfect QB to play against the Eagles.

He’s an accurate passer which is needed against the Eagles young athletic secondary. Plus, Philadelphia has been playing more man-to-man than past years.

Which leads to Dart using his legs. In the two teams’ first meeting, Dart completed 68 percent of his passes and ran for 58 yards. He had a rushing and passing TD in that game for the Giants.

QB Duds

Drake Maye, New England

Maye has been on a nice 6-week run where he has scored more than 20.2 or more fantasy points in 5 of those 6 games.

Now he and his Patriots offense face a Browns defense that is one of the best in the league.

The Browns ranked No. 1 overall in defense in the league (256.1 yards a game) and are Top 4 in both passing and run defense.

RB Sleepers

Cam Skattebo, New York Giants

Skattebo gives the Giants offense a nice 1-2 punch with Dart, and the rookie running back could see his running game struggle. The Eagles’ run stopper Jalen Carter missed the first contest and returned to the starting lineup from his heel injury last week.

But it’s Skattebo’s work in the passing game that will make him fantasy viable this week.

He is averaging 4.3 targets a game, and if the Giants are in a negative game script, that number may increase in Philly.

RB Duds

Quinshon Judkins, Cleveland

Judkins has a break out game last week with his 3-touchdown performance against Miami, but this week the sledding will be a lot tougher on the road vs. New England.

The Patriots have the third best run defense in the NFL, giving up only 77.1 yards a game.

And Judkins has been a much better runner at home. He’s only averaging 59.7 yards rushing on the road while rushing for 96.0 yards a game at home.

WR Sleepers

Jaylin Noel, Houston

Noel may have seen the least amount of snaps among the Texans’ wide receivers last week, but it is the production that was key.

He saw 7 targets in Houston’s road loss to Seattle on Monday night. He turned those targets into 4 catches for 77 yards.

The Texans will be without their top 2 wide receivers as Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) have both been ruled out against San Francisco.

WR Duds

George Pickens, Dallas

I know it’s hard to not play any Dallas starters, but I think this the week one of Pickens, CeeDee Lamb or Jake Ferguson take a dip in production this week against the Denver defense.

The Broncos have limited opponents’ WRs to only 12.5 fantasy points a game this season.

I think Lamb still gets his points even against Patrick Surtain II, but it will be Pickens who suffers this week.

TE Sleepers

Daniel Bellinger and Theo Johnson, New York Giants

I realize I have a pattern going this week with my Sleepers as I like almost the whole starting offense for the Giants (my spreadsheet likes the game going over the total of 43.5 points).

Bellinger and Johnson each played more than 68 percent of the snaps last week against Denver and combined for 6 catches for 154 yards and 2 TDs.

The Eagles have given up 221.3 passing yards a game this season, and Wan’Dale Robinson is the only other legit receiving option the WRs and TEs for the Giants.

TE Duds

George Kittle, San Francisco

Kittle ran a lot of wind sprints in his return from a hamstring injury in the 49ers’ win against Atlanta.

He played 54 snaps (81 percent of the TE snaps) was only targeted twice and it doesn’t get any easier this week.

Houston only gives up 4.5 fantasy points to TEs this season and are a Top 5 pass defense, giving up only 179.0 yards a game.
