Man shot in Abbotsford: police

Police are investigating after a man was fatally shot in Abbotsford Monday morning.

The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) says the shooting took place on Ridgeview Drive near Summit Drive around 9:20 a.m.

“One adult male was shot. As a precaution, three nearby schools were briefly placed under a shelter-in-place protocol. No students were harmed or directly impacted,” police said in a post to social media.

In an update just before noon, the AbbyPD confirmed the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Images from the scene show police have the area blocked off. The AbbyPD says a “significant police presence” will remain there as the investigation continues.

The department is expected to address the media with more information around 12:30 p.m.
