Today marks a year since Manchester United announced Ruben Amorim would become their new head coach. It has not been the easiest ride.
Even after their current run of three consecutive victories, they have still only won 22 matches against the 21 they have lost under Amorim’s charge.
Minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently quelled talk the 40-year-old might get the sack by saying Amorim could need three years to really make an impact at Old Trafford. And Amorim accepts there were days when he wondered if he would even get to complete his first year.
“I had some moments that I struggled a lot and I was thinking that maybe it’s not meant to be,” he said. “Today is the opposite. Today I feel that, and I know that, that was the best decision in my life, and I want to be here.”
