Sophie Cunningham Jokes About Running Marathon Despite Leg Injury Amid WNBA Offseason

If anyone is keeping WNBA fans entertained amid the disappointing CBA discussion news and offseason, it’s Sophie Cunningham. WNBA fans swoon over Cunningham’s appearance on the Good Morning America show.
Her podcast episodes are also fascinating as they are not limited to basketball talks, but she touches on multiple topics, and fans are showing love to every edition.
It seems like the Fever forward is still keeping the magic alive with her charm, sassy takes, and witty jokes. In her recent podcast video, the forward talks about the idea of running a marathon.

The 29-year-old hooper missed a significant portion of the 2025 WNBA season due to multiple injuries. While she is still recovering from the torn MCL injury, the former Missouri star spoke about running a marathon.

West Wilson, co-host of the podcast, came up with the topic, and Fever Forward responded that she was thinking about it. The star jokingly said that she feels marathon runners are ‘mentally ill’ and that’s her thinking. Bur added that she is also ‘mentally ill’ and is thinking about running a marathon. But not any marathon, as she has a particular annual event in mind – the Hawaii Marathon.
“I have an awesome friend out here. Her name is Amy. And she does the Hawaii (Marathon). There’s a Honolulu marathon every year around December. And I was like, Hawaii is my happy place. So I was like, ‘Heck yeah.’ But my leg is not ready for it this year. So, I’m actually doing a full marathon next year, and I’m trying to get Lindsay, my sister, to do it, too,” Cunningham said.
The said marathon is 26.2 Miles long, and the versatile star feels that when the season is over, she will be fit to cover that distance. Even if she feels tired, she could walk around enjoying the scenery.
While the marathon comes out to be an ‘offbeat’ topic for a basketball player, the star never shies away from speaking her mind in front of the camera. While she is on a strict diet plan for her rehab, the star rejected the results of a food sensitivity test.

The 2019 rookie is the top free agent in the offseason, and Indiana Fever fans urge the team to re-sign Cunningham after her impressive first season. However, the player must fully recover from their injury to be fit for the season. Amid her rehab, new medical reports came that shocked the fan favorite player.
Replying to the same, Cunningham said, “I’m like allergic to or not allergic, highly, highly sensitive to, like dairy, beef, pork, pineapple, rice, seaweed, any type of cheese. But I don’t believe in that. I don’t believe in this test, to be honest. No, I know it’s not. It’s not. Like, I think it’s just like the es and flows. Like, I don’t really know what it is, so it is what it is. I’ll be fine. But at least I have Arby’s now. Put a little beef in me. Not allergic to Arby’s.”
On one end, Cunningham is aiming to get fit for the upcoming season and even run a marathon, but not working according to the test report might lengthen her recovery period.
