Downtown Columbus museum severely damaged after reported gas leak

A museum in downtown Columbus suffered major damage after a reported gas leak.

Columbus Fire crews went to the Kelton House Museum and Garden at 586 East Town Street around 2:32 p.m. in response to a gas leak. An apparent ignition caused the part of the building to collapse and heavy smoke.

Fire crews are on scene and have not said if there were any injuries or what caused the incident. A neighbor told WSYX he heard a loud boom and felt his building shake.

Kelton House Museum was founded in 1976, but the building dates back to 1852 and was once part of the Underground Railroad.
