Whipping winds knock out power for thousands of Washoe County residents

WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Thousands of Washoe County residents are without power Wednesday morning due to high winds.
According to NV Energy, 28,258 customers are without power as of 7:45 a.m. on Nov. 5.
A high wind warning is in effect in the Greater Reno-Carson-Minden areas and Mono County, California, from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Southwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected. Wind prone areas along US-395 may see gusts up to 70 to 80 mph with ridgetop gusts up to 110 mph.

Officials say people should secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away.
