Which RBs Will Dominate the Fantasy Playoffs | Advanced Matchup Stats Reveal All
We’re one week closer to the fantasy playoffs, and trade deadlines are approaching fast. Our short series continues with the running back position by breaking down which backfields have the most favorable and unfavorable advanced-stats playoff matchups.
When projecting RB playoff success, three advanced metrics consistently stood out as the strongest indicators:
- EXP Run % — explosive run rate (15+ yard runs)
- YACO/ATT — yards after contact per attempt
- FPPG Allowed to RBs — fantasy points defenses surrender to the RB position
These metrics proved to be the most predictive when identifying backfields set up for soft playoff schedules versus brutal defensive stretches.
Players in the “good” or “bad” playoff tiers below meet one key criteria:
- They have at least 2 of 3 playoff matchups with a positive or negative edge in these advanced metrics.
Use this to guide trade targets, playoff planning, and stash priorities as we close in on championship season.

🏆 RBs With Fantastic Fantasy Playoff Matchups
Interestingly, the running backs listed with fantastic playoff matchups don’t necessarily inspire the most confidence. Many of them have been wildly inconsistent this season, which makes trusting them in a do-or-die fantasy stretch a risky proposition.
However, there is one name in that group who has true league-winner upside and should be on your trade radar over the next few weeks: Chase Brown.
With Joe Flacco now under center, the young back has seen a noticeable boost in efficiency and usage. Brown has flashed explosive ability and is trending in the right direction at the perfect time for fantasy managers preparing for a playoff push.
His playoff slate? Ravens, Dolphins, and Cardinals—two tough defenses, but also a winnable matchup that should still provide opportunity, especially with Cincinnati leaning more on Brown’s fresh legs and playmaking juice down the stretch. If you’re looking for a sneaky acquisition with championship-swing upside, Chase Brown is your guy.
🏆 RBs With Good Fantasy Playoff Matchups
There are plenty of studs in the “Good Playoff Matchup” tier that you can feel confident rolling out in the fantasy playoffs. Names like Judkins, CMC, Barkley, and Irving all profile as strong bets to deliver when it matters most.
The one player in this group who is tougher to trust is Alvin Kamara. While his schedule versus the Jets and Titans in Weeks 15 and 16 looks appealing on paper, I wouldn’t expect a late-season resurgence solely because of the matchups. His usage trends and efficiency concerns make him more of a volatile RB2 than a reliable playoff hammer.
Another running back you should be targeting on the low right now is Trey Benson. Since his injury, the Cardinals have rotated multiple backs trying to replace the spark and efficiency Benson brought to the run game—none have matched his juice when given the opportunity.
Once he’s fully back in the mix, Benson has a clear path to reclaiming lead-back usage. And the playoff schedule sets up nicely: he’ll face the Falcons and Bengals, both defenses that have struggled with yards after contact, which is one of Benson’s biggest strengths. If you want a sneaky upside play who could surge when it counts, Benson is one of the best buy-low backs heading into the fantasy playoffs.
🛑 RBs With Poor Fantasy Playoff Matchups
You’ll notice plenty of star running backs landing in this poor playoff matchup tier. I wouldn’t be overly concerned with names like Bijan Robinson, Jonathan Taylor, James Cook, or even Rico Dowdle. Elite talent tends to overcome difficult situations, and those players have the skill sets and volume to still deliver strong fantasy outputs when it matters.
However, there are some sharp sell-high opportunities here—most notably Breece Hall and the Bears backfield.
Hall faces two defenses that excel at limiting yards after contact, a key part of his success this season. Then in Week 17, he draws the Patriots, a top-10 unit against running backs. That’s a brutal stretch when you need ceiling performances.
Chicago’s backfield isn’t in a much better spot. To start the fantasy playoffs, they run into the Browns and Packers, both ranking top-five in fewest FPPG allowed to RBs. That’s a script where efficiency and scoring opportunities could take a major hit.
If you can flip Hall or a Bears back for a playoff-friendly RB upgrade or depth package, this is the window to capitalize.
🛑 RBs With Horrible Fantasy Playoff Matchups
There are four backfields that stand out with a terrible fantasy playoff schedule for running backs. Derrick Henry and Kyren Williams will have their work cut out for them. Fortunately, each gets at least one favorable matchup mixed in — but the other weeks are tough, and efficiency may take a hit. The good news is that both backs dominate their backfields, so sheer volume should help keep them fantasy-relevant even in difficult spots.
The bigger concern comes from the Denver and Seattle backfields, where we’re looking at near-50/50 splits. Committees plus brutal schedules are the recipe for fantasy headaches. Denver draws the Packers, Jaguars, and Chiefs — all strong run defenses that limit explosive plays and scoring chances. Meanwhile, the Seahawks face the Colts, Rams, and Panthers, and while Carolina is softer, the volume split makes this backfield hard to trust when your season is on the line.
Don’t be surprised if these backfields end up hurting playoff lineups more than they help. If you rely on Denver or Seattle RBs, consider adding insurance, exploring a trade, or planning flex pivots before the window closes.

Key Advanced Player Stats | Starts/Sit
- NE Backfield – Don’t expect the Patriots’ backfield to get any easy runs as the Buccaneers allow the fewest yards after contact in the league at 1.45.
- Bucs Backfield – Whether it’s the return of Bucky Irving or Rachaad White, they are in for a tough matchup as the Patriots have not allowed a running back to gain over 50 yards or score a TD in 6 straight games.

- Ray-Ray McCloud – Could be a deep sneaky play in Week 10, as he ran 34 routes last week in his first game as a Giant. Now, the Bears team plays the 10th-highest man-coverage defense, and McCloud has thrived against it.
- CHI Backfield – whoever is the starter in Week 10 is going to see a big game against the Giants’ run defense, as they allow the 3rd-highest Exp Run% at 8.5%. This backfield is going to make some highlight runs in Week 10.

Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) @ Los Angeles Chargers (6-3)
Key Advanced Player Stats | Starts/Sit
- Aaron Rodgers – The veteran QB could beat a bad matchup against the Chargers, as they run the 5th highest Zone coverage, and Rodgers currently has the 7th highest QB rate against Zone coverage.
- Justin Herbert – Herbert should be in for a big passing day at home as the Steelers’ secondary has allowed a 300-yard passer in 4 of the last 5 games.

🧠 FAQ | Week 10 Fantasy Football Start/Sit Advanced Data
Q1: Which players pop in Week 10 when analyzing advanced stats?
A: Using data from the Fantasy Points Data Suite, players showing elite TPRR (Targets Per Route Run) and MTF/ATT(Missed Tackles Forced per Attempt) stand out as top plays. RBs creating yards after contact and WRs earning heavy route-adjusted targets should headline your Week 10 lineups.
Q2: How can advanced stats uncover DFS sleepers for Week 10?
A: Focus on XFP/G (Expected Fantasy Points per Game) and i20% (Inside 20 Rushing Share). These metrics identify under-priced players seeing consistent red-zone usage and stable opportunity—prime DFS salary-breakers.
Q3: Which data points highlight touchdown upside in Week 10?
A: i5% (Inside 5 Rushing Share) and EZ TGT (End Zone Targets) isolate backs and receivers positioned for short-range scoring chances. High values in either signal positive touchdown regression and must-start appeal.
Q4: What advanced stats flag regression or sell-high candidates?
A: Watch for low MTF/ATT or declining YACO/ATT (Yards After Contact per Attempt) paired with unsustainably high TD rates. Those players often normalize in production—especially when efficiency dips despite steady volume.
Q5: How can I apply advanced data to prop bets and betting markets?
A: Track ADOT (Average Depth of Target), Press %, and CPOE (Completion Percentage Over Expectation). Quarterbacks maintaining accuracy under pressure and WRs with deep-target roles tend to exceed passing-yardage or reception props.
Q6: What’s the smartest way to break a Week 10 start/sit tiebreaker?
A: Compare Man Win Rate, Zone Win Rate, and defensive Press %. These matchup-adjusted indicators reveal how receivers separate and how QBs perform versus coverage types—decisive when two players project similarly.
Trivia Answer | Over the past 3 weeks of play, Kyle Pitts leads all TEs in targets (26) with Tucker Kraft and Trey McBride tied for 2nd (22). (click to return)
