Tyson Foods has sent formal notice to state labor officials of plans to lay off 3,212 jobs by January 20, 2026.
Tyson announced Friday it is closing its Lexington beef plant due to economic conditions in the beef industry.

In compliance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act), a company official notified the Nebraska Department of Labor that it intends to eliminate more than 3,000 jobs.

“Tyson Foods regrets that team members at the Lexington complex will be displaced yet hopes to accomplish this layoff with the least possible disruption to the lives of the team members, their families, and the community,” the letter states.
Further, the notice says “the mass layoff is expected to be permanent in nature, with duties for affected positions ceasing on or around January 20, 2026. Please note that because of the nature of our business, certain operations and positions may continue for a short time past the date above.
Tyson says it is not a union plant.
