Are banks open on Veterans Day 2025? Tuesday holiday affects branches nationwide

Thousands of banks across the U.S. are scheduled to be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. Major banks such as Chase, Wells Fargo, PNC Bank, Huntington Bank, and Bank of America will be closed for the holiday and will reopen on Wednesday.
The closures are largely unavoidable for banks as the Federal Reserve follows the federal holiday schedule. Because the Federal Reserve Banks process transactions and provide other necessary services for banks across the U.S., their closure means your local branch will also be closed.
Most credit unions will also be closed for the day.

While in-person services won’t be offered, many banks will allow for customers to view their account online, schedule bill payments, use the ATM and make mobile deposits. Customers may want to verify availability of those services with their local bank.
The tradition of observing Veterans Day began in 1919, when it was known as Armistice Day. The day originally marked the anniversary of the end of World War I and honored those who served in the war. However, following World War II and the Korean War, Congress amended the law in 1954 to change the name and expanded it to honor all U.S. military veterans.
Veterans Day is different from Memorial Day as the latter honors military members who died during their service.
