Akon arrested weeks after being found stranded with dead Cybertruck

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (WKRC) – Iconic songwriter and singer Akon was taken into custody after he was found stranded with his dead Cybertruck.
According to WSB-TV, 52-year-old Aliaune Thiam, known to millions as Akon, was arrested on November 7 by officers with the Chamblee Police Department in the state of Georgia.
The outlet’s report states that Thiam had a warrant out of Roswell, Georgia, after law enforcement in the city found him stranded with a Tesla Cybertruck with a dead battery on September 10.
While waiting for a tow truck to arrive at the scene, officers ran the Cybertruck’s tags and found that it didn’t have insurance on file. They then discovered that his license had been suspended since January 3, 2023, per the report.
Thiam was able to show officers proof of insurance, according to WSB. According to TMZ, authorities also located “an illegal vape in the center console, which was seized during the inventory and submitted for destruction.”
He was later arrested on November 7 after a bench warrant was issued for failure to appear for a suspended license, per TMZ.
Jail records obtained by the station reportedly indicate that Thiam was in the DeKalb County Jail for around six hours before being released.
Thiam is a five-time Grammy-nominated singer who first rose to fame with his 2000s hit song “Locked Up.” He has recently been focused on philanthropic and charitable work, alongside continuing to make music.
