Jalen Hurts proves he’s Eagles’ leader with perfect response to A.J. Brown drama

It seems like it has become a weekly occurrence for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, as he has to respond to questions about his star receiver, A.J. Brown, but he handles it like a pro every time.

This week, Hurts and the Eagles are dealing with Brown’s comments on a Twitch stream, where the receiver called the Eagles a “s-show” and told fantasy owners to drop him, while showing his Madden 26 stats to illustrate what they should look like. Hurts’ head coach, Nick Sirianni, took the first wave of questions on them to the point where he snapped back at the media for it.

During his press conference, Hurts had to address questions multiple times about Brown, and his message throughout the presser was perfect.

“I know you got to ask those questions, and I got a lot of respect for that,” Hurts said via The Athletic’s Zach Berman. “My focus always goes back to what the group is doing and what the collective is. Obviously, A.J. (Brown) plays a pivotal role in what we’ve been and what we’ve done, and we have to continue to grow with that every day. I know he’s talked about having a growth mindset and embracing that, so we need to have that mentality as we go through this season to go to where we want to go.”

“We’ve got the Detroit Lions, so I’m going to definitely put a halt to that. I think the more we drive that, the more of a distraction it becomes and I think ultimately it’s about the group.”

Hurts is going about it the right way

Everyone knows that Brown is struggling and frustrated with the offense. He caught just two passes for 13 yards in the 10-7 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 10. Brown barely has 400 yards on the season and will be lucky to get to 700 at the rate he is going.

Hurts has tried his best to get his star receiver the ball when he can, but it just hasn’t happened. This is an offense that has struggled all season, ranking near the bottom in every category except for points.

It’s not as if Brown has been the only one calling out the offense for its struggles, as many others, including Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata, have done so throughout the season. Hurts has always stayed on the high road, and fans can respect that.

Will things get better on offense? Who knows, but if this continues, something is going to have to change, whether that’s Brown exiting the franchise or offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo losing his job. Regardless of what happens, at least fans can be assured that Hurts will be ready to handle it all.
