Padres’ Nick Pivetta exits rehab with apparent injury, Joe Musgrove encouraged by his appearance
LAKE ELSINORE — The Padres added two starting pitchers to their rotation on Monday.
The depth could be needed more than they hoped.
Right-hander Nick Pivetta walked off the mound with an apparent injury after recording two outs during Tuesday’s rehab assignment at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore. Pitching for the low Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm, Pivetta threw eight of his 14 pitches for strikes, hit 95 mph and allowed a hit before exiting the game abruptly in the middle of the fourth inning.
Pivetta shook his head as he left the mound and walked briskly into the Storm dugout.

It was Pivetta’s first game action since flexor discomfort forced him from an April 12 game against the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park. Pivetta made four regular-season starts, going 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA, before hitting the injured list.
Pivetta was in Lake Elsinore to piggyback Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove, who was also making his first rehab start as he makes his way back from his October 2024 Tommy John surgery.
Musgrove allowed a run on two hits over 2 ⅔ innings in the start. He threw 22 of his 39 pitches for strikes, struck out three and walked two.
