Brandon Flowers, lead singer of the beloved rock band The Killers, sometimes dreams of walking away from performing.
While promoting his upcoming solo album “Thrasher” in a July 31 interview with The Sunday Times, Flowers, 45, said, “The older I get, the more I have gravitated towards being … I guess my dad.”
The Grammy nominee continued: “My dad goes to yard sales, where he buys frames to take home and paint. He’s never had any money in his life and he’s happier than I am. I’m really going through it right now — how much longer do I want to do this, what does it mean, why am I doing it anyway?”
Flowers has released seven studio albums with The Killers, who are known for hit songs including “Mr. Brightside,” “When You Were Young” and “All These Things That I’ve Done.” Formed in 2001, the rock band’s most recent tour ended in December 2024.
“Whenever I finish a tour, without fail I get sick,” Flowers told The Times. “Then I think of Mick Jagger and ask myself, ‘What keeps him getting up on that stage?’ I guess it’s because there are powerful moments in a concert. How could I not want to do that?”

“Thrasher,” which is set to be released on Aug. 21, is Flowers’ third solo album. He describes the record’s sound as “country and western,” genres that his dad listened to when Flowers was growing up. The frontman’s work with The Killers has oscillated between genres, with the band releasing everything from synth pop to folk rock over the years.
“You can never take the synth pop out of me. It will always be there,” Flowers said.
Flowers lives in Utah with his wife, Tana Mundkowsky, and their three sons: Ammon, 19, Gunnar, 17, and Henry, 15.
