Police investigating after 44-year-old man dies next to Seattle Convention Center

SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department says they are conducting a death investigation as of Saturday evening, after a middle-aged man died near the Freeway Park alongside the Seattle Convention Center.
SPD confirms that just after 6:20 p.m., they responded to a report of a man who was down and bleeding near Union Street and Convention Place.
Upon arrival, they found him with “obvious head trauma”.
Officers tried CPR before the Seattle Fire Department picked up life-saving efforts. They ultimately declared the man dead at the scene.
Dayton Smith, who lives in a condo just down the road along Hubble Place, said that he just moved in this summer and had been warned to stay away from the Freeway Park area.
“I’ve walked through that park a couple of times, during the daytime, beautiful park, but from what I’ve been told, a bit sketchy at night,” said Smith.
He added, however, that it’s reminding him to think of safety in what is now his new home.
“It’s sad to know that that happened very close to where I’m at,” he said.
Homicide detectives and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit will be coming to the area later Saturday evening to process the scene and collect evidence.
