Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s game against the New York Giants with a knee injury suffered in the first quarter.
Jacobs left the game after the Packers’ second drive, a possession that also saw quarterback Jordan Love head to the locker room with a shoulder injury. Jacobs carried twice in goal-to-go situations, first picking up 4 yards to reach the 1-yard line and then getting ruled short of the goal line on second down. Backup quarterback Malik Willis threw a 1-yard touchdown to Christian Watson on the next play.
Jacobs left the game after that drive and headed to the locker room with a knee injury. Love eventually returned to the game to finish the first half, and the score was tied at 13 at intermission.
The Packers are already without their most important offensive player not named Love in tight end Tucker Kraft, who tore his ACL two weeks ago. Now they’re without the next guy on that list in Jacobs, who ran seven times for an efficient 40 yards and 5.7 yards per carry in the first half.
Green Bay had 106 rushing yards on 16 carries (6.6 YPC) in the opening 30 minutes, which included backup running back Emanuel Wilson’s 11-yard touchdown run up the middle in the second quarter. The Packers will need to continue making do with what they have on the ground without their feature back, which included a 17-yard run from cornerback/wideout Bo Melton and a 16-yard keeper from Willis in the first half.
Jacobs has already battled through an illness and calf injury this season and didn’t miss a game in his debut season with the Packers last year. Stay tuned for more information on Jacobs’ knee after the game.
