MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – One person is dead Monday after a vehicle fire on the frontage road of Highway 51 at Buckeye Road, the Madison Fire Department said.
MFD said crews arrived just before 11:45 a.m. to southbound Highway 51 at Buckeye Road.
Firefighters removed one person from a vehicle, and determined the individual was dead.
Madison Police Department determined a vehicle hit a tree and caught on fire.

A cause of the vehicle fire was not clear.
US 51 northbound from Pflaum Road to Buckeye Road has been closed since a WisDOT alert was sent out around 12:20 p.m. Monday.
Lauren Brinkman, of Underdog Pet Rescue, saw traffic backed up from the crash.
“I think it was probably around 2 that we started realizing the impact and how bad and backed up it is,” Brinkman said.
MFD said law enforcement is investigating this death. The WisDOT alert said Dane County Sheriff’s Department is responding.
Around the same time, law enforcement were responding to a multi-vehicle crash and fire that happened on the Madison Beltline at Todd Drive on Monday. Police said this crash does not appear to be connected to Highway 51 crash.
