Pierce Brosnan “Open” To Playing Doctor Fate Again; Teases Possible ‘Superman’ Appearance

Pierce Brosnan has raised the prospect of Doctor Fate appearing in Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to James Gunn‘s DC Studios reboot Superman.
In an interview with GQ, Brosnan said he was open to playing Kent Nelson, aka Doctor Fate, after inhabiting the role in the ill-fated 2022 movie Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson.
“I’ve heard that Doctor Fate was going to have his own show, or his own movie. I’ve heard that he’s going to be in the next Superman,” the Irish actor said.
Asked if he would consider playing Doctor Fate again, the former James Bond star responded: “I enjoyed that, the philosophy of that character, very much, and I would definitely be open to it.”
Gunn announced in September that Man of Tomorrow will bow on July 9, 2027, with David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult expected to return as Superman/Clark Kent and Lex Luthor.
Little else is known about the blockbuster, but Gunn has already hinted at a role for Doctor Fate in his reset of the DC universe through a Hall of Justice mural in Superman.
“I think Doctor Fate’s in there,” Gunn told the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast. In another interview with Rolling Stone, the director added that a “ton of thought” went into the mural.
Asked by Rolling Stone if there are plans for all the characters featured, Gunn said: “Not necessarily specifically see all of them, but yes, some of them we already have in the works in different things in different ways.”
DC already has its Supergirl bowing on June 26, 2026. The studio is also set to go into production on Clayface, which is set to bow on September 11, 2026.
Superman was considered the reset of the DC Cinematic Universe, with Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios with Peter Safran, also writing the screenplay based on the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
It hit theaters July 11 and opened to $125M at the domestic box office, eventually becoming the first DC movie to cross the $300M mark at the domestic box office since 2022’s The Batman.
