‘Sentimental Value’ Leads 2026 European Film Awards Nominations

Joachim Trier’s family drama Sentimental Value, which won the Cannes Grand Prix in May, has come out as the frontrunner in key categories at the nomination stage for the European Film Awards.

The work has been nominated for Best European Film, Best European Director and Best Screenplay while co-stars Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgard have been nominated for Best European Actress and Actor respectively.

Further frontrunners include Oliver Laxe’s Morocco-set drama Sirāt with four nominations, followed by Mascha Schilinski’s debut film Sound of Falling and Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just An Accident with three nominations each.

The European Film Academy, which oversees the awards, unveiled nominees for nine key categories on Tuesday in Spain at the Seville European Film Festival including for Best European Animated Feature and European Documentary

The nominations are based on the votes of 5,400 members of the European Film Academy who have been watching the films included in the annual Academy Shortlist.
