73-year-old falls overboard on Disney Cruise, remains missing

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (WKRC) – A 73-year-old man fell overboard from a Disney Cruise ship, forcing the boat to turn around and search for hours to no avail.

According to local outlet 7News, the unidentified passenger went overboard at around 4:30 a.m. as the boat sailed toward Auckland. Authorities did not elaborate on whether or not they believed the action was done intentionally.

The staff turned the boat around as soon as they learned about the news and conducted a search of the water for roughly five hours before giving up and continuing on the journey, the outlet reported.

“The captain came on and updated the boat and basically stated that there was someone, a passenger had fallen overboard… [but] that they were unable to find them,” said passenger Mitch Tablot. “It was quite sombre and it was just a bit eerie for the rest of the day. A lot of the staff kind of took some time.”
