HGTV Star Addresses ‘Devastating’ Health Rumors After Photo of Her on Oxygen Goes Viral
HGTV star Hilary Farr is clearing the air after a fake AI-generated video claimed she was facing “devastating” health news.
The longtime Love It or List It star, 74, took to Instagram to shut it all down and reassured fans she’s perfectly fine.
The viral clip featured bogus AI images of Farr wearing an oxygen mask alongside a dramatic headline suggesting she might not survive. The post even claimed a doctor treating her “cancer” had warned she may never appear on television again. None of it was true.
Farr addressed the rumors herself on Thursday, November 27, sharing a video with the fake reports pulled up behind her.
“Ta daaa,” she said, before adding, “I’m alive. Very, very, very much so alive and well, I’m happy to say.”
She laughed at the sloppy editing in the AI footage, calling it “crazy, AI stuff,” and told followers she hoped no one had taken it seriously.
“It’s so badly done,” she said. “I hope you realize it is just fake beyond words.”
Fans quickly filled her comments with relief. Some thanked her for speaking up about the increasing amount of AI-driven misinformation, while others told her she looked healthy and glowing as always.

Farr stepped away from Love It or List It in 2023, but she has been open in recent years about her real health history. She revealed in 2021 that she privately battled breast cancer, first discovering a precancerous lump in 2012. Farr later received a diagnosis of invasive breast cancer in 2014, and she underwent multiple surgeries. Since then, she has spoken candidly about the fears and frustration she experienced during treatment.
