Capitals sing ‘We want you, baby’ at Spencer Carbery and Rasmus Sandin after beating Toronto Maple Leafs

The Washington Capitals collected their sixth win in their last seven games, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 at Capital One Arena.

Inside the victorious locker room, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery, a former Leafs assistant coach, had a lot of shoutouts to give, but in the end, he got one of his own from the players.

“LT, what a f***ing job today,” Carbery said. “Two game-saving saves. That one Laughton on the breakaway and then that one 6-on-5, great f***ing job.”

The room roars.

Carbery continued. “This guy just tied the all-time franchise record, ten consecutive games with a point for a defenseman, Jakob Chychrun.”

The players give Chychrun a standing ovation before, as a team, chanting “strippppper.”

“And that f***ing play, Mikey the poise, Leno that pass, that’s a hell of a play,” Carbery said.

Then a joke.

“PK, unbelievable job today,” Carbery said before flashing a smile. The Leafs got no power plays, and the Capitals killed no penalties.

“Atta boy, Scotty,” someone, who sounds a lot like Alex Ovechkin, shouts out, faux-congratulating assistant coach Scott Allen.

Carbs then asked, “Did I miss anything?”

Ovi begins singing the team’s tunnel anthem, “We want you baby,” typically reserved for a player who is let go by a previous team.

Carbery then walked over to Rasmus Sandin and gave him a fist bump.

Ovechkin had previously serenaded Sandin before the game. The Capitals acquired Sandin in a trade with the Leafs on Feb. 28, 2023, for defenseman Erik Gustafsson and a 2023 first-round pick.

Wholesome stuff — well, minus all the cursing.
