When snowstorm will end Sunday across Michigan, Great Lakes

Here’s a look at when the snowstorm will wind down across Michigan and the Great Lakes region.

The snow will end from southwest to northeast across Lower Michigan Sunday.

The snow will still be fairly widespread at 7 a.m. Between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. the area of snow will shrink quickly.

The general idea is the snow will be over by 9 a.m. over the southwest quarter of Lower Michigan. South-central and Central Michigan should have the snow end around 10 a.m. Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, Bay City and the Thumb will have the snow over by 11 a.m.

Here’s the short radar forecast during the morning.

Radar forecast from 9 a.m. to noon, Sunday, November 30.NOAA

As the widespread, system snow winds down, a lake-effect band of snow will develop from northern Michigan, around the Traverse City area, south along Lake Michigan. This will hug the coast, meaning U.S. 31 will have the worst weather conditions in the afternoon.

If you wait until 1 p.m. or later, you should have no snow in most places. The southern half of Michigan will also warm to around 32 degrees by 1 p.m.

One swipe of the plow after the snow ends, and some salt, should help the roads improve quickly. It will turn colder starting at 5 p.m. but hopefully main roads will have dried off by then.

The second half of the afternoon will definitely have the safest weather to travel, wherever you are going.

If you are heading to Chicago or Milwaukee, the snow ends there early in the morning. A noon-time arrival to Chicago should be fairly safe.

The storm is moving northeast. Ohio and Indiana will also have precipitation end by mid-morning. Roads heading south should be fine.

Enjoy the snow in the morning. Everything looks right on track for most of us to have a total of four to seven inches when it’s all done.
