COLUMBUS, Ohio — Chris Henry Jr.’s commitment has been one of the biggest pieces of National Signing Day news, as the five-star receiver from Mater Dei is being courted by various programs.

He’s currently committed to Ohio State.

On an eventful National Signing Day, here’s the latest on Henry’s commitment and decision:

Chris Henry Jr. committed to Ohio State as the first member of the 2026 recruiting class. Originally from Ohio, he later moved to California to continue his high school career.

Reports surface about Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline taking the head coaching job at South Florida.

Just moments later, Kaden Dixon-Wyatt, Henry’s teammate at Mater Dei, flips his decision from Ohio State to USC.

An announcement: 11:04 a.m.

Reports surface that Henry has signed with Ohio State at a signing ceremony at Mater Dei. Those were inaccurate, as Henry was simply announced as having been heading to Ohio State.

Henry had not signed with Ohio State at that juncture, as the Buckeyes did not have his paperwork.

Various reports then circulate that Oregon and USC are making strong pushes to land him begin.

A non-answer: 12:15 p.m.

Ohio State general manager Mark Pantoni, while addressing the media, gets asked a question about Henry signing with the Buckeyes.

Pantoni reiterates that he cannot say anything about players that have not signed.

Former NFL star receiver Chad Johnson weighed in on the saga on his X account.

“Wherever you go tell em we are a package deal so i can be a WR coach. I (expletive) love you man.”

Johnson played with Henry’s father, the late Chris Henry, in Cincinnati with the Bengals.

While the news continued to remain at a standstill about his decision, Ohio State superstar receiver Jeremiah Smith posted his pitch on social media for Henry to join him in Columbus next season.
