Christmas Tree of Life honors organ donors at Sacred Heart Bay

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Ascension Sacred Heart Bay and several partner organizations honored donors by decorating their Christmas Tree of Life Tuesday evening.

Families and friends of organ, tissue, and eye donors gathered to place ornaments that pay tribute to their loved ones. The memorial event ran from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay’s Healing Garden Atrium in Panama City.

The tree was filled with both old and new ornaments created by families and friends of donors. Each ornament honors someone who gave the gift of life through organ, tissue, or eye donation.

A short program took place before the decorating ceremony, featuring remarks from participating organizations. The event offered families a chance to come together and remember their loved ones during the holiday season.

Ascension Sacred Heart Bay, LifeNet Health, LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services, and Lions World Vision Institute partner each year to support this annual tradition. They say there’s no plan to stop it any time soon.

The tree started around 8 feet tall 10 years ago and has now grown as tall as 13 feet.
